Election Irregularities Must Be Investigated Konadu Rawlings

The recently elected 1st Vice Chairperson of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, has said there is a need to investigate the irregularities that took place at the various congresses of the party throughout the country. She said the investigations were relevant due to eyebrows raised by party supporters, which were still pending. According to her, party members and delegates who voted for various candidates need to have a clear idea of what actually went on during the elections. There are a lot of people who are pretty angry about certain things that went on, she stated. Speaking to Joy fm, the wife of the founder of the party said, though there was an election, some members never had the chance to choose executives they preferred, due to certain things. There are some who did not get the chance to choose those they wanted as their executives, she said, in apparent reference to some executives. She also alleged that some executives were foisted on the people, adding that some members never communicated with delegates nor visited them in their various constituencies. In some places, people were forced to accept executives who were not even from their area, she added. But the NDC 1st Vice Chairperson gave the assurance that all unhealthy issues have been reported to the National Chairman, the General Secretary and obviously the National Executive Council. Issues like bribery and corruption dominated most of the constituency and regional-level elections, as well as other national executive elections that were held in Sunyani to elect the National Youth Organiser of the party. All these things have come to the attention of the General Sectary and the Chairman, and I believe that these irregularities will be dealt with, she assured party members. She however, added that the leaders of the party needed to sit down and look at all these issues. We have to look at some of these things that happened so that a decision can be taken on it, she added.
