No Major Road Rehabilitation Works In Kumasi Since 1996?

The Minister for Roads and Highways says the ‘Greater Kumasi Town Roads’ would see a massive improvement of roads within the Kumasi Metropolis including newly created districts.

Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah, Roads Minister, made the announcement on Tuesday at the ‘Meet the Press’ series in Accra.

The Minister while sharing the Ministry’s achievements and challenges over the last two years said the outlook for the future was positive as many of the initiatives implemented by the Ministry were bound to bear fruits soon.

One of such initiatives he revealed was the Greater Kumasi Town Roads project which is expected to see the Asphaltic overlay of 150 kilometers of road, resealing of 145 kilometers of road as well as the rehabilitation/ reconstruction of some 180 kilometers of existing roads. He said work had already commenced with progress estimated at around 10%.

He said the Government viewed work on the Kumasi Town Roads as a priority hence the decision by the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to cut the sod for the facelift of the Greater Kumasi Town Roads Project in August, 2018.

He further revealed that contracts had been signed for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of 100 km of roads, the dualization of the lake road and the construction of the Sissai River Storm Drain.

He listed the beneficiary assemblies as including the Kumasi Metropolitan, Tafo, Suame, Oforikrom, Juaben, Effiduase, Bantama, Subin and Ejisu Municipal Assembly areas.

This news is expected to be welcomed by residents of Kumasi who haven’t seen any major road rehabilitation work since 1996 resulting in a significant portion of the paved network deteriorating.
