NAM1 Arrest: Provide Us Details of What Happened In Dubai - Minority Asks Gov't

The Minority in Parliament is calling for a full disclosure on what happened during the recent trip by a government delegation to the United Arab Emirates, for the possible extradition of Menzgold Chief Executive Officer, Nana Appiah Mensah.

According to the Minority Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, details such as which government officials from the Emirati side met the country’s delegation, the level of diplomatic discussions that took place between the two countries, and the role of the Ghana mission in the UAE in resolving the matters at hand, are all critical information that Ghanaians must know.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, the North Tongu MP argued that if the purpose of government’s recent trip to Dubai was only to take a statement from NAM 1, then the Ghanaian Embassy in Dubai could have conveniently done that on behalf of the government.

"You can’t waste tax payer’s money just to produce a statement. You should give us an update of what transpired," he insisted.

He also accused government of causing financial loss to the state by funding the recent trips by some EOCO and Ghana Police officials to the UAE to take a statement from NAM 1.

A government delegation that flew to Dubai to negotiate the release of Menzgold CEO Nana Appiah Mensah aka NAM1 returned to Ghana without him.

The delegation made up of Deputy Attorney General, Joseph Dindiok Kpemka, a representative from the Economic Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) and National Security flew to (United Arab Emirates) UAE to negotiate the extradition of the Menzgold boss following his arrest.

The delegation's main mission was to “try to strike a deal with the government of the Emirates to see to the fact that he is brought back to Ghana to face justice.”

That move seems not to have been a fruitful one as the delegation arrived in Ghana without NAM1.

Attempts to get NAM1 extradited from Dubai was seen as a big task because Ghana does not have what they describe as an extradition treaty with the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

NAM1 who is a wanted man in Ghana for defrauding by false pretense is in police custody in Dubai and facing criminal charges.
