6 Escape Death In Multiple Accidents

The accidents occurred when a Toyota Corolla saloon car with registration number GE 1640-15 skidded off the road. It spilled its fuel content on portions of the motorway, making it difficult for some drivers to ply the road.

Five of the injured persons were passengers while the other injured person was a bystander.

The injured were rushed to the Tema General Hospital for treatment.

Confirming the incident to DAILY GUIDE, Ernest Nuuf Awimini, Head of the Accident and Emergency Unit at the Tema General Hospital, said the five persons are responding to treatment.

According to him, four of them would be discharged immediately while one would continue to be on admission for further treatment.

An eyewitness told DAILY GUIDE that “cars keep skidding off the road due to lack of friction between tyres and the road, thereby causing drivers to lose control”.

Explaining how the accident occurred, Divisional Officer (DO) 1, Timothy Affum, Deputy Tema Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), narrated that at about 7:50 am his outfit received information about an accident on the motorway.

“When we got there, the accident involved a Toyota Corolla with registration number GE 1640-15 which had skidded off the road, spilling its fuel content on portions of the motorway near Kasapreko. Four victims on board the vehicle had already been sent to the Tema General Hospital when we arrived,” he recounted.

He added “because of the spillage on the road, the surface became slippery which caused a second vehicle – a Nissan Navarra pick-up with registration number GN 9099-16 – to also skid off the road, injuring the driver . . .”
