Parliament has hauled the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, before its Privileges Committee for allegedly inciting the public against the murdered journalist, Mr Ahmed Hussein-Suale.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Michael Aaron Oquaye referred to the Privileges Committee of Parliament a complaint of contempt of Parliament made by Hon Muntaka Mubarak, Minority Whip and MP for Asawase, against Hon Kenedy Agyepong the MP for Assin Central.

Making the complaint, Hon Mubarak Muntaka made reference to Order 53 ( 1L) of Parliament  and article 112 of the constitution and concluded that Hon Kenedy Agyepong has injured the reputation of Parliament by his comments and utterances which incited the public against the murdered Ahmed Husein- Suale of Tiger Eye  PI and must therefore be dragged before the Privileges Committee.

It would be recalled that the Minority caucus at a recent press conference hinted that it would take steps to drag Hon Kennedy Agyepong to the Privileges Committee of Parliament for making comments that incited the public against Ahmed Hussein-Suale who was murdered by some unidentified persons.

Commenting on the complaint made by Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, the Majority Leader Hon. Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu said the matter raised on the floor should be handled by the Privileges Committee.

Giving his ruling on the matter, the Speaker Rt Hon Prof Michael Aaron Oquaye referred the matter to the Privileges Committee for consideration and report to the house.

Responding, the Majority Leader, Mr Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, said the members had not heard Mr Agyapong making the comments.

Therefore, he said, the audio could not be played in the chamber.

He said the Privileges Committee should be allowed to determine whether Mr Agyapong was in breach of privilege or not.

Ahmed Hussein-Suale who worked with the Tiger Eye Private Investigations, a private investigative company operated by ace journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, was killed by unknown assailants at Madina on January 16, 2019.

He was shot three times, twice in the chest and another in the neck late in the night while driving home by unidentified men riding a motorbike.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has since launched a full-scale investigation into the gruesome murder.

The CID said it had interrogated Mr Agyapong on the alleged inciting comments.
