Ken Agyapong's 'Parliament Is Useless' Comment Report Will Not Be Shelved - Majority Chief Whip

The Majority Whip and Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpandai in the Northern region, Mathew Nyindam has said Parliament will definitely consider the report of the Privileges Committee of Parliament on its hearing on a complaint of contempt of Parliament made last year (2018) by Muntaka Mubarak, Minority Whip and MP for Asawase.

The Asawase MP made a complaint against Kennedy Agyepong MP for Assin Central who was reported to have allegedly described Parliament as useless.

Mathew Nyindam made the comment today (Thursday) in response to a question from a Member of the Parliamentary Press Corps at a media briefing by leadership of Parliament and the Public Affairs Department of the House.

Mathew Nyindam said apart from the report of the Privileges Committee which is yet to be considered by Parliament, the report on the tragedy that occurred at the Kintampo Water Falls will also be considered.

Background

The Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, was last year dragged before the Privileges Committee of Parliament for calling the Legislature as "useless".

The Minority caucus described the attitude as one which is unbecoming of the controversial MP, saying his comment in the media repeatedly brings the name of Parliament into disrepute.

Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak says the Minority now has evidence that Mr Agyapong called Parliament ‘useless’ and he will push for him to be dragged before the Privileges Committee.
