The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, on Monday, presented four pick up vehicles (two each) to the National Council for Persons with Disability and the Lepers Aid Committee to support their activities.

Making the presentation, Hajia Alima Mahama, the Sector Minister, said they deemed it very necessary to support the two institutions because of their critical roles in making life better for the vulnerable in society.

Hajia Mahama explained that the support was also in line with the Akufo-Addo-led Administration’s resolve to support the vulnerable in all situations.

She said the Government’s commitment to the wellbeing of vulnerable groups was also demonstrated in the increased budgetary allocation from two per cent to three per cent in the last Budget Statement.

She said the Disability Council had a key role in the monitoring activities of persons with disability and all support services that had to be delivered to them.

She urged the Council to utilise the vehicles for their purported use, adding that the Ministry would monitor to ensure their effective utilisation.

Mr Victor Forfoe, the Director of Finance and Administration at the Ministry for Gender, Children and Social Protection, received the vehicles on behalf of the Council.

He said their use would bring efficiency to the work of the Council by ensuring that every visitation that needed to be done was accomplished without transportation challenges.

He gave the assurance that they would be used to achieve the desired outcome by monitoring the policies of the Government, especially, the three per cent common fund allocation.

On his part, the Reverend Father Andrew Campbell, said the presentation meant a lot to his Committee because it would help to easily reach out to the lepers in the remote parts to assist them.

He said hitherto, the Committee had to hire vehicles before sending assistance to difficult to them, which drained their funds.

Rev Campbell said a lot of cured lepers had been neglected by their families all over the country and that the vehicle would spur the Committee on to work for their wellbeing.
