The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Ohene Ntow, has expressed misgivings about current wranglings in the party, which he said, has even escalated to the point of some people unleashing physical attacks on others. According to the NPP scribe, the leadership of the party should make it a point to address the issue before it gets out of hand. "Definitely there are instigators in the ongoing struggle. As such, the leaders of the two factions in the Party, Nana Akufo Addo and Alan Kyeremanteng should be made to make public statements on commitments," he said. Mr Ohene Ntow was of the view that eventhough the two leaders did not asked their supporters to carry out any nefarious acts, "once some things are done in your name, you have to take responsibility�, he said, in apparent reference to supporters of the two former presidential aspirants who went on the rampage yesterday at the NPP's Greater Accra Office. �We should get the two of them to make a public statement on commitment and get their supporters to realize that this is not going to get the party where we need to go,� he added. Speaking to Citi FM in an interview, Nana Ohene Ntow called for a new approach in resolving the issues between the two leaders. "In the past, the party just took it as a normal run of things with each group supporting its favorite....When it begins to take the dimension of physical attack, it means we now need to approach it differently,� he stated. Though he admits that the two factions had crossed the bar, he disagreed with the suggestion that the situation had gotten out of hand. He said "the Party leadership ought to handle the situation honestly and realistically without sweeping it under the carpet." "Clearly speaking...the mere fact somebody supports a particular person should not lead to an attack....I don�t see why if somebody supports another person in a contest of this nature, that should be such a big problem,� he remarked. Supporters of the NPP, believed to be in the camp of the 2008 presidential candidate of the party, Nana Akufo Addo, went on rampage and attacked workers and party executives at the Greater Accra Regional Secretariat of the Party on Thursday evening, immediately after the Ghana-Nigeria match. Heavily built men wielding machetes and sticks, besieged the regional office in search of people believed to be opposed to the candidature of Nana Akufo Addo. The incumbent General Secretary of the party confirmed the receiving reports of the attack which resulted in some persons getting injured. �I was called by the Regional Secretary that such an incident had happened....I even visited an injured boy who was admitted at the Ridge Hospital for treatment. But the boy was said to have been sent to the 37 Military Hospital for an X-Ray....It is a serious concern to me. This was a clear incident that showed that there were factions in the party and there was no denying the fact on the issue,� he stressed.
