JB's 'Killer' "Sexy Don Don" Needs Mental Examination - Counsel

Counsel for Daniel Asiedu aka Sexy Don Don, Lawyer Augstine Obour, says his client needs "mental examination".

He says until that is done, his argument and confessions cannot be considered as truth.

Speaking on Okay FM's Ade Akye Abia Programme, he explained that he has already informed the court and the state prosecutors that his client needs to be mentally examined before continuing with the court processes and investigations, but they have refused to do that.

"It is part of the cross examination process, the prosecutor know so if they refuse to do that you cannot have him cross examined and accept the things he is saying," he added.

" . . it might be true he committed the crime, but he might not have done it out of his own volition without any body contracting him. I have been saying from day one that though a crime has been committed, he needs mental examination and until this examination is done, we cannot accept what he is saying or has said in court," he maintained.

Daniel Asiedu, who gave a voluntary confession to the court, claims he was contracted by some persons within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to murder the NPP MP for the Abuakwa North constituency.

In his confession, the accused also said after his arrest, the alleged persons who contracted him approached him to accuse certain persons within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of hiring him.

Daniel Asiedu further added that a promise by his contractors to get him freed when the NPP comes to government has not been met, hence his decision to spill the beans.

But his lawyer says these things cannot be accepted until he is mentally examined.

Facts

Per the facts presented to the court by Ms. Batse, the two suspects between February 8 and 9, 2016 both planned to go on a robbery spree armed with a screw driver, a pair of scissors, a sharp knife, a catapult and other weapons.

She said the two suspects met at Kwame Nkrumah Circle where they took a Madina-bound vehicle and later alighted at Shiashie near East Legon.

“There was a misunderstanding between the two as to which house to rob and this led them to part ways. A2 (Vincent) boarded a vehicle back home whiles A1 (Daniel) continued scouting the area and ended up in the deceased’s house. The deceased had returned from work at about 11:40pm on February 8, 2016”, the court heard.

Ms. Batse stated that the late MP was far asleep when Daniel Asiedu got to the house about 1am on February, 2016.

She said the suspect managed to scale the wall and entered the house easily because the security man was also far asleep.

She told the court that Daniel found a ladder in the house and used it to climb into the late MP’s bedroom through the window and began ransacking the room.

The state prosecutor said the noise woke the late JB Danqua-Adu up and he struggled with the suspect who stabbed him several times in the neck and chest till he collapsed and died.
