Accept The Chosen Regional Capital – Ntim To Chiefs In New Regions

Former National First Vice-Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Stephen Ntim is pleading with the chiefs and the people of the newly created regions to humbly accept the towns that will be announced as the regional capitals.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 presented the Constitutional Instrument (CI) on the creation of six new Regions at the Jubilee House.

The creation of the new Regions, according to government, will be a major boost to the development of Ghana's economy.

The President earlier today presented the Constitutional Instrument to the people of North East Region.

He has named the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed to be the caretaker Minister of the new Region till the appointment of a substantive Minister.

Nayirigu has also been chosen as the capital of the North East Region, President Akufo-Addo noted during the presentation ceremony at the Jubilee House.

Ahead of the official announcement of various towns as regional capitals, there has been some agitation from key people insisting that they are better placed and have all the resources to make them regional capitals.

Mr. Ntim in a statement said after making every effort for the creation of the new regions it will be unfortunate situation that the selection of the regional capitals will cause disunity.

According to him he said “Some of us supported and fought hard for the creation of the new regions because we believe in the benefits that will accrue to the people in terms of development sooner or later".

"Irrespective of which towns will be selected, it is my strong belief that in terms of development, the government will adopt and apply measures that will ensure that the much-anticipated development is equitably distributed throughout the respective regions", he pleaded.

"We requested for these regions and have worked assiduously toward bringing them into fruition. It is my fervent prayer that the selection of the capitals will also be peaceful without any serious misunderstandings. It would be very unfortunate that after all these painstaking efforts, the selection of the regional capitals would rather come and disunite us", he stated.
