Two Car Robbers Get 30 Years Jail Term

An Accra criminal court has handed 30 years jail term to two car robbers, Yaw Antwi Boasiako alias Yaw Broni, and Kwaku Akorsah alias Abban.

The two were jailed by the court presided over by Justice Aboagye Tandoh for robbery and conspiracy to commit crime, yesterday.

The convicts, a goldsmith and a driver, were handed 15 years each for stealing a Toyota Camry belonging to one Godwin Broke.

However, two other accomplices, Ivan Kofi Danso and Faisal, are on the run.

The prosecuting officer, Chief Inspector K. Adu, presenting the facts in court, stated that the complainant, Godwin Broke, who is an Engineer and resident of Tema Community 3, reported to the police about his missing Toyota Camry vehicle.

According to the prosecutor, information gathered by the police indicated that on June 18, 2015, suspect Ivan Kofi Danso invited the convicts and suspect Faisal, also at large, to his house at Kwabenya and told them that he had seen a Toyota Camry car in town and wanted them to steal it.

The jailed persons and suspect Ivan Kofi Danso, now at large, are known to be good friends.

As a result, on June 6, 2015, in the evening, the convict, Yaw Antwi Boasiako, and suspect Faisal went to Kofi Danso’s house and he drove them to a drinking spot at Abelemkpe.

After spending some time at Abelemkpe, suspect Ivan Kofi Danso drove the convict Yaw and Faisal to the house of convict Kwaku.

After Kwaku alighted from the car and went home, suspect Ivan handed a locally manufactured pistol to suspect Faisal.

The prosecutor continued that after Kwaku returned to the car, suspect Ivan Kofi Danso drove them to Dzorwulu towards Royal Fiesta Hotel, and on the Nii Kwabena Boni Crescent Street the robbers spotted the complainant’s car being driven by himself with a friend on board.

Suspect Ivan Kofi Danso identified the car to his accomplices, and then followed the complainant to a location where he dropped off his friend.

“Suspect Faisal and the convicts went to the complainant’s car. Suspect Faisal pointed the gun at him and forced him and his friend out of the car. Suspect Faisal drove the car with the convicts to suspect Ivan Kofi Danso’s house,” he added.

He told the court that after the robbery, the complainant reported the case to the police for investigation, and on October 5, 2015, the police, acting on intelligence, retrieved the car which had been re-registered with a different number from suspect Ivan Kofi Danso’s house.

C/Inspector K. Adu said investigations that led to the arrest of the convicts, and they all admitted to the offence in their respective investigation cautioned statements, and were charged accordingly.
