Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Eugene Boakye Antwi says the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have set themselves up for defeat in 2020 by their election of former President John Dramani Mahama as the party's flagbearer.

According to Hon. Boakye Antwi, though the government is not going to be complacent thinking the 2020 elections will be an easy race for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP); he however believes the NDC has shot themselves right in their own foot.

The NDC on Sunday, February 24, 2019 elected former President John Mahama as Presidential candidate to lead the party into the 2020 general elections.

Mr. Mahama beat his six competitors by a landslide victory to become the party's flagbearer.

His overwhelming victory in the NDC Primaries is believed by the party leadership and members to reflect the outcome of the elections, come 2020.

They are hopeful the former President will bring the NDC back into power.

Responding to the NDC's optimism over the 2020 elections, the Deputy Minister told host Kwami Sefa Kayi the year 2019 will be a good year for Ghanaians as President Nana Akufo-Addo together with the government is making tangible interventions to enhance the progress of the economy.

He stated emphatically that Mr. Mahama is a "cool chop" for the NPP.

“This year will be a good year for Ghana and Ghanaians. As for John Mahama . . . I have faith that even if the NPP elects me, I will beat him,” he stressed.
