The Member of Parliament for Adansi-Asokwa, K.T Hammond has defended government’s holidays Amendment Bill saying "we will never never accept that Kwame Nkrumah was the founder of Ghana".

Tempers flared on Thursday as Parliamentarians debated proposed changes to Ghana’s statutory holidays.

The Minority in Parliament staged a walkout to express their disapproval for the holiday Amendment Bill currently before the House which seeks to scrap Republic and AU days as public holidays and introduce August 4 as Founders’ Day and January 7 as Constitution Day leaving September 21 as a commemorative day.

However, K.T. Hammond says the minority caucus has no case.

According to him, history makes it 'clear that Kwame Nkrumah is not the only founder of Ghana.

He further indicated that nobody is saying Kwame Nkrumah should not be recognised; “that is not the argument at all…let’s get history right; how can you say that there is only one founder in this country?

"If they come to power and change it, we will come back and change it…we will never never accept that Kwame Nkrumah was the founder of Ghana," he said while speaking in an interview on Citi Eyewitness news, Thursday,
