John Boadu Reveals The ‘Actual Work’ of NPP’s Vigilante Groups

The General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party [NPP], John Boadu, has stated emphatically that the formation of vigilante groups within the NPP was not to create mayhem whatsoever during election periods.

According to him, vigilante groups’ modus operandi within the NPP is to “prevent violence and snatching of ballot boxes during election time by NDC vigilante groups.”

“We don’t snatch ballot boxes like the NDC to create pandemonium, we don’t do that. NDC is a party that pride itself as violent people, we are not,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’.

The actions of vigilante groups have taken over Ghana’s media space in recent times as they often make the headlines on various news portals.

Political parties allegedly engage the services of such groups to achieve particular objectives such as provision of security.

But the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), David Asante Apeatu has directed political parties to denounce vigilante groups claiming allegiance to them with immediate effect.

According to the IGP, it is against the country’s laws for political parties to have such groups that have recently been disturbing the peace of the country.

Also, President Nana Ado Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called for a dialogue between leadership of the NPP and NDC to address and disband all vigilante groups.
