Leaked Tape: No Criminal Content Can Be Found...He Said Nothing New-PNC Communicator

As the whole nation excluding members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised red flag with regards to the contents in the leaked tape believed to be the voice of NDC National Chairman Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, director of Communication for PNC, Emmanuel Wilson sees nothing wrong with the contents in the tape.

According to him, everything in the audio which he strongly believes is the voice of NDC National Chairman are rightfully said and have no criminal content of which the nation should criticise, attack and fight the NDC Chairman for.

Speaking on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji Weekend talk show, Mr. Wilson said he will find it difficult to appreciate the claim of the NDC that the voice in the leaked tape is not the National Chairman of the party but he can also find nothing wrong with the issues raised in the leaked tape as everything he said already in the country’s political circus.

“...but if they say the leaked tape is a fake one, I will find it difficult to appreciate that...knowing very well their chairman and his voice, I will find it difficult to believe that this is a fake tape. But what exactly are the content of it? I listen to it and two or three issues stand out clearly and strongly”, he stated.

He averred that a careful scrutiny of the leaked tape of Chairman Ofosu-Ampofo revealed that he was only telling his members of the communication team and other leaders to wage war against the Electoral Commission Chairperson; adding that waging war against the EC boss raised by NDC Chairman only meant verbal attack as former EC bosses, Dr. Afari Gyan and Charlotte Osei have all been victims by both NPP and NDC.

He wondered how waging war against the Electoral Commission chairperson constitutes any criminality; thus “since did this become something new in the country? Are we not in this country where similar or even worse thing was done on Afari Gyan? What didn’t Afari Gyan suffer in the hands of both NDC and NPP?”

“When NPP was in opposition, do you remember their attack on Afari Gyan? We had someone called Charlotte Osei; Madam Charlotte Osei, what words and attacks were not put on her to extent that you could even get Honorable members, people in Parliament attacking this woman and individuals who presented themselves as championing women interest even getting to support people who were attacking this woman and there was nothing wrong with that and we didn’t have a CID in this country to invite these individuals”, he posited.

Again, the PNC Director of Communication said the NDC Chairman was right to have endorsed any verbal attack on the Chairman of Peace Council by his communicators as the conduct of the head of Peace Council has been biased regarding his posture in the incidence at Ayawaso West Wuogon and his response to former President Mahama’s boot-for-boot comment.

“I am wondering what is so criminal and so bad about discrediting the Peace Council Chairman who has distinguished himself as bias. In fact, he was simply amplifying the posture he has put himself in by making it so obvious as such”, he explained.

He further said that Chairman Ofosu-Ampofo did nothing wrong telling people in the leaked tape to set up an intelligence security unit to run all the way from the national through to regional and constituencies where they will have the opportunity to be briefed on security intelligence which will guide them to prepare into future elections.

“Any serious political party is suppose to have internal security intelligence unit and so I was surprised that a whole political party like the NDC did not have this and it is now that they are thinking of setting up one”, he stated.

Regarding making people in the country feel uncomfortable and intimidated as revealed in the leaked tape, Mr. Wilson said Ofosu-Ampofo was re-echoing the clarion boo-for-boot call made by former President Mahama so that members of NDC will protect themselves.

“...and in protecting ourselves, he says that ‘we are not going to attack anyone but people who come to attack us; we will find a way of making them feel uncomfortable. In other words, we will also find a way of intimidating them so that when they are intimidated, it will discourage them from coming out to attack us”, he interpreted the audio.

He stressed that another aspect of the leaked tape means that “even if NDC is not able to get those individuals who are intimidating them, they will find a way of getting people that are around those individuals and that will serve as form of intimidation and it will discourage these people from attacking the NDC”.

“These issues raised in the tape, which of these is really something that is so new in this country as far as our politics is concerned?”, he quizzed.
