Regional Minister: Ignore Rejoinder; It's An Attempt To Drive Wedge Between Myself, Ken & Afenyo

The Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan, has denied issuing any rejoinder accusing the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong of lobbying for the Regional Ministers position on behalf of his (Agyapong's) colleague MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo Markin.

A rejoinder making the rounds on social media quotes the Central Regional Minister saying "I see this attempt by Mr. Kennedy Agyapong as one of his bid to lobby my position for his good friend Hon. Afenyo Markin, the Member Of Parliament for Effutu Constituency".

Over the weekend, the Assin Central went on his usual rampaging rants and launched a scathing verbal attack on Hon Kwamena Duncan, following what he (Agyapong) considered as attempts by the latter to undermine his (Agyapong's) authority as far as the impasse at the University of Education Winneba is concerned.

Whiles accusing the Regional Minister of contributing absolutely nothing to the NPP's electoral campaign in 2016, Hon Ken Agyapong warned the Minister not to mess with him, else he (Agyapong) will make life uncomfortable for him (Duncan).

"What was Kwamena Duncan’s contribution to the Central Region during the 2016 campaign? Did he buy even iced water for anyone?....

"If he doesn’t take care I’ll descend heavily on him, he alone has taken 50 road contracts that were awarded in the Central Region.’’ Mr. Agyapong said.

Following the outspoken MP's outburst, reports went viral on social media that Hon Kwamena Duncan had fired a sharp riposte, indicting the NPP MP for his penchant of threatening party leaders in the media for contracts, and also scheming to have him (Duncan) replaced,.

But speaking in an interview on Peace FM morning show 'Kokrokoo', Kwamena Duncan denied issuing any statement to that effect, describing it as an attempt to drive a wedge between him, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong and Afenyo Markin.

Meanwhile, below is a copy of the alleged statement.

RE: YOU’RE A THIEF FOR AWARDING 50 ROAD CONTRACTS TO YOURSELF

My attention has been drawn to a false story circulating in social media regarding an allegation made by Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, that I am a thief for awarding 50 road contracts to myself. This news didn’t come to me as a surprise because Mr. Kennedy Agyapong wanted his friend to become the regional Minister which he was refused.

I wish to categorically state that since I took over as a regional Minister, the region has not received a road contract more than 30 which he Mr. Kennedy Agyapong is a living testimony.

I would want to state with no equivocation that I have not awarded any road contracts to myself as Mr. Kennedy Agyapong has alleged.

However, it is Mr. Kennedy Agyapong who is always in the media to threaten our Party leaders for contracts.

Mr. Kennedy Agyapong started these allegations when Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah (The Ag. Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority) had refused him a contract worth $293million concerning the National Identification Card.

Mr. Kennedy Agyapong did not loose focus on this NIA contract until he and his wife Stella Wilson, were awarded Ghc100million contract by the then energy Minister, Mr. Boakye Agyarko to supply 150Watts LED street lights.

I see this attempt by Mr. Kennedy Agyapong as one of his bid to lobby my position for his good friend Hon. Afenyo Markin, the Member Of Parliament for Effutu Constituency

I would want to encourage all readers to treat it with the contempt it deserves.

Thank you.

Signed

Kwamena Duncan
