Anas' Inability To Give Us More Evidence Has Stalled Nyantakyi's Prosecution - A-G

Attorney General, Madam Gloria Akufo has said it is unfair for Anas Aremeyaw, an undercover investigative journalist to petition online to get former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi prosecuted when he is in the known that her outfit have done every best expected of it to make justice prevail.

In an interview with BBC news, the Attorney General indicated there is a halt on the case due to Anas’ inability to provide some additional documents needed to further investigations.

Therefore, it will be wrong on his part to draw a conclusion that her [Gloria Akufo] office has failed to take any action against Kwesi Nyantakyi almost a year after the number 12 exposé was premiered.

“We will see prosecution, we have made that decision but we need to have the full evidence and that may impact on what we have in draft now.

“I am surprise that the impression being given that somewhat we are not eager to prosecute, that in fact is unfair to this office particularly, because we have been dealing directly with Anas and he knows the effort we have been putting in and what we are calling for, and the fact that we have indicated what we need to enable us move on which he has not supplied to us yet,” he emphatically stated.

Background

Reports have it that undercover investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw has begun an online petition to get former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi prosecuted, believing it will compel the appropriate authorities to make the man who was once a member on CAF’s Executive Committee face the criminal charges he deserves

Anas is alarmed that months after his undercover Number 12 exposé was premiered, no proper action has been taken against Mr. Nyantakyi by the government of Ghana.

Nyantakyi who was captured in the Number 12 exposé engaging in some alleged shady deals had already been banned for life by the world football governing body, FIFA.

Anas in a write-up on the online petition platform expressed shock that the Attorney General has failed to take up the matter despite the circumstantial evidence that compelled FIFA to ban Nyantakyi.

“Police have completed investigations into likely criminal misconduct by Mr. Nyantakyi. They submitted their findings to the Attorney General last year [2018]. The Attorney General has not taken any action on the case till date. Please help us ask the Attorney General to move this case forward. Mr. Nyantakyi should face criminal prosecution over some of his misconduct, which borders on criminality,” Anas added.
