"Where Is This Young man Coming From"? - Elvis Afriyie Shades Bossman Asare

The Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has condemned the Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) for some comments made which according to him smacks of arrogance.

Dr. Eric Bossman Asare while speaking to the brouhaha surrounding the EC’s decision to compile a new voters register, said the Commission does not need any political party's permission to produce a new register.

A release by the EC after an ‘Inter-Party Advisory Committee’ (IPAC) meeting indicated that it would compile a new voters’ register for the 2020 General Elections.

However, the NDC issued a statement denying contents of the statement saying the decision for a new voters' register was not discussed at the IPAC meeting and further demanded that the EC withdraw what it describes as a “deceptive communique”.

Speaking further on the issue during an interview on Citi Eyewitness news he said “Let me make this point very very clear . . . if the Electoral Commission wants to have a new register, we don’t have to consult the political parties to do it; by law we have the right; the constitution makes it very clear to us. If we want a new register, and if in the thinking of the Commission . . . a new register has become necessary, we don’t have to consult the political parties . . . we will decide".

His remarks did not, however, go down well with Afriyie Ankrah.

Speaking on the same platform, he asked Dr. Bossman to go to Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan, a former Chairman of the Commission for advise.

“I am scandalised listening to him; where is this young man coming from? This young man is a danger and a threat to the peace and stability of this country. His tone, posture and language . . . he needs to go to Dr Afari Gyan and learn some lessons.. . . . This kind of disdain and behaviour, we are not going to accept it. He should better position himself. He should go to Afari Gyan and learn," he said.
