Fake Gold Sold To Businessmen

Fake Gold Sold To Businessmen A 53-year-old businessman, Jacob Kwesi Kumi, is in the grips of the law for selling fake gold to two businessmen to the tune of GH60,000. Kumi and two accomplices, now at large, allegedly approached the businessmen, Peter Pius and Alfred Arthur, and promised to offer them "pure" gold to buy. Pius and Arthur are alleged to have quickly doled out the money to Kumi after he had produced samples of genuine gold to them for inspection. However, the hopes of the two businessmen were dashed when the supposed 20 kilogrammes of gold allegedly given to them turned out to be two coated bars of metals and, some sand which was supposed to be gold dust. The Dansoman District Police Commander, ASP Wilson Aniagyei disclosed these to The Spectator on Tuesday said the police were making frantic efforts to arrest those on the run. According to him, last year, the complainants were approached by a white man to buy. They contacted Kumi who promised to find them the gold in the shortest possible time. ASP Aniagyei, said Kumi collected GH60,000 from the complainant and assured them of 20 kilogrammes worth of gold bars. He said the "pure" gold given to the complainants were sent to the Precious Minerals for examination, where it turned out to be fake. ASP Aniagyei said Kumi was subsequently arrested by the police and arraigned before the James Town magistrate's court. Kumi has been remanded in police custody to re-appear on February 19.
