NSA Condemns Acts Of Violence At The Baba Yara Stadium

The National Sports Authority (NSA), has condemned the acts of vandalism exhibited at the ongoing Ashanti Regional Inter-schools and Colleges Athletics Super Zonal competition at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

This led to the destruction of about 1,805 seats in the red stands of the stadium.

At an emergency meeting on Friday, March 29, between the Regional Sports Directorate and the Regional Physical Education coordinator Mr. Osei Mensah, it was agreed that tickets should not be sold on the second day of the event.

Furthermore, a limited number of students would be admitted into the facility, whiles arrangements are made to beef up security with Police and Military personnel.

Prof. Peter Twumasi, Director General of the NSA, who chaired the meeting, indicated that the Authority would review all operational arrangements with the Ghana Education Service with regards to events of this nature. A statement signed by Charles Obeng Amofah, Ag. Public Relations Officer of NSA said.

He cautioned leadership of the various institutions on the need to educate their students on how to comport themselves in public gatherings like school sports events.
