Dumsor Will Taint NPP's Image If Not Solved - Opanyin Agyekum (WATCH)

Dean of the School of Performing Arts at the University of Ghana, Prof. Kofi Agyekum popularly known as Opanyin Agyekum is asking government to come clear on the actual cause of the recent power outages.

Some parts of the country have been experiencing continuous power outages increasing the perception that 'dumsor is back'.

However, the Deputy Minister of Energy in charge of Power, Mr William Owuraku Aidoo claims the recent outage is due to the total shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant in the Western Region.

Some communicators of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) claim the recent 'dumsor' is due to lack of funds; another claim government has disputed.

Opanyin Agyekum speaking to the issue on Tuesday's edition of 'Kokrokoo', asked government to tell Ghanaians the truth.

According to him, if they are not able to solve the power outages, it will taint their image.

"The bottom line is the truth . . . they should tell us the truth. If authorities had told us the truth from the beginning, we would not have gotten to this level, but we will wait till the 12th day and see if they will be truthful to their word. Those complaining are justified . . . we don’t want to go back," he said.

In response, Eugene Boakye Antwi a Deputy Minister of Ministry of Works and Housing, and a Member of Parliament for Subin Constituency in the Ashanti Region, assured Ghanaians that the power problem will be solved.

"We have no choice but to fix it . . . we cannot afford to let this country down," he indicated.
