GNPC And Ministry Of Health Move To Strengthen Ghana-Cuba Relationship

Ghana’s Ministry of Health (MOH) together with Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) On Thursday, April 4, 2019 in Cuba signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Cuban Republic through its Medical Brigade to train about Two Hundred and Twenty-Seven (227) medical doctors and specialists.

The Executive Director for GNPC Foundation, Dr. Dominic Kwesi Eduah who represented GNPC on this august occasion said “the corporation will remain focused on its core mandate and deliverables and will not rest until there is remarkable improvement in the quality of life of the people of Ghana. Thus, GNPC’s quest to empower and impact the lives of Ghanaians is our primary responsibility”.

At the international level, Ghana and Cuba have maintained cordial diplomatic relations since 1959. Indeed, Ghana was the first African country to establish diplomatic relations with the Government of the Cuban Revolution. Since then, officials of the two countries have exchanged a high level of pleasantries.

As part of the special treaty between the two countries, Six Hundred (600) Ghanaian students have been given scholarships by the Cuban government since the year 2000, with some three thousand (3,000) Ghanaians benefitting from this arrangement in previous years.

The delegation from Ghana to Cuba included high ranking members from the Ministry of Health (MOH), Ministry of Education (MOE), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Bank of Ghana (BOG) and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). The event coincided with the visit of the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo to the Cuban Republic.
