A Kumasi Circuit Court has granted a GH�1,000 bail with a surety to Linford Owuo, a shoemaker, who is on trial for assaulting a traditional ruler with a bicycle chain resulting in the loss of two of his teeth and an injury on the face.
Owuo, alias "CD", is also said to have hit the chief's head with a concrete block which made him unconscious.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and will re-appear before the Court on March 3, this year.
Police Inspector Philip Yao Bebli, prosecuting, told the Court presided over by Mr Justice Richard Mac Kogyapwah that the Complainant, Nana Kwaku Nsiah is a farmer and one of the sub-chiefs of Adankwame, near Kumasi.
He said the accused person is also a native of Adankwame but resides at Fante New Town, a suburb of Kumasi.
Chief Inspector Bebli said on December 12, 2009, at about 1830 hours, "CD", went to that town and confronted the complainant for selling plots of land belonging to his family to a witness in the case.
This resulted in a fierce argument and "CD" who had then become extremely angry, assaulted the chief.
The prosecutor said the unconscious victim was rushed to the Manhyia Government Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.
A report was made to the police who arrested CD at Fante New Town and after investigations brought him before the court.
