CAF Names One Ghanaian Referee For AFCON 2019 List

Ghana's Daniel Nii Ayi Laryea, has been named by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF), as one of 56 referees to officiate in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be hosted by Egypt.

The 32-year-old center referee would join the list of 27 center referees, selected across the continent with 29 other assistant referees for a pre-Afcon seminar to be held in Morocco.

Laryea, has a lot of tournament experience, having officiated in the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament, in Morocco last year, the 2017 Africa Under-17 Cup of Nations in Gabon, as well as the 2017 WAFU Cup held in Ghana.

At age 24, he became the youngest FIFA referee to officiate in the Ghana Premier League in the 2013-14 season.

Laryea, who is also an accountant, is the grandson of retired referee L.O Laryea who was once Chairman of the Referees Association of Ghana.

Other top referees on the list include; Mahmoud Zakria El Banna of Egypt, Bamlak Tessema of Ethiopia, Eric Arnaud Otogo Castane of Gabon, Zambia’s Janny Sikazwe and experienced Gassama Bakary Papa of Gambia.
