Rotary Int'l Foundation....Dep Chief of Staff Recalls Humble Beginnings From Bantama To The Presidency

Deputy Chief of Staff Francis Asenso Boakye has offered a little insight into his undertakings at the Presidency, saying he is motivated to continue serving the President to enable the current administration address society’s needs equitably, because of the "constant reminders" of the "persistent struggles and needs of my fellow compatriots", and further strives to practice what Rotary taught him: "that we receive, often in excess of our own immediate needs, so that we, too, may give to those in need."

Expressing his fullest appreciation to the Rotary Foundation for an opportunity given him to become a “better citizen”, he disclosed that his "entire life" was virtually changed by the timely intervention of the foundation when he was awarded a full scholarship to study abroad.

The former rotary ambassadorial scholar was delivering a keynote address at the Rotary International District 9102 Foundation Lunch in Accra over the weekend.

It was made up of Rotarians from Ghana, Togo, Benin, Niger and Kenya.

The Conference assessed and shared experiences on how to improve upon the humanitarian services of Rotarians in their various communities.

I remain thankful to the Rotary Foundation for putting me on a path that has made me into a better citizen and an asset to my community and society at large,” he said.

Whiles also paying tribute to his host family, the Deputy Chief of Staff disclosed that his interest in public service was cemented by his rotary opportunity and experience.

"I would like to use this occasion to pay a special tribute to Bob Gallagher and his lovely wife, Mary Jean, my host family. It was during Bob Gallagher’s time as Rotary District 6400 Governor that his district provided a scholarship to a young man they hadn't seen before, somewhere in Africa. God bless them...

....My Rotary opportunity and experience also helped cement my interest in public service as a way of giving back to my society and helping to make it a better place for all. While still at Michigan State, I had the opportunity to work as a legislative intern at the Michigan House of Representatives, thus getting my first taste of the inner workings of the policy-making and legislative process of government," portions of his address read.
