POLICE IN Donkokrom within the Afram Plains North District of the Eastern Region, have arrested a Fulani man who is believed to have kidnapped a 14-year-old girl.
According to police, the suspect kidnapped the girl with the intention of forcibly marrying her.
The suspect, Abubakar Iddrisu, was arrested at Adeambra on Thursday night around 10pm.
DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) who confirmed the incident to DGN Online, said the victim was crying on the motorcycle she was being transported on when the Police stopped the suspect at a checkpoint to question him.
According to the Regional Police Spokesperson, the suspect claimed that he was the girl’s father and that he was sending the victim to her grandmother in Nigeria.
He stated that the victim denied the suspect’s claim and told the police she was being sent into forced marriage.
The victim’s mother, Mariama Abubakar, was invited to the police station.
She also denied the claims made by the suspect.
She confirmed that her daughter was being sent into forced marriage in Nigeria.
The suspect since has been detained in police custody.
