NYA Holds Orientation Prog For Thematic Working Groups On Review Of National Youth Policy

The National Youth Authority on Tuesday May 28, 2019 held an orientation program for the Thematic Working Groups towards the review of the National Youth Policy at Alisa hotel, Accra.

The event which forms part of activities towards the review of the National Youth Authority to all participants gathered to participate in a very important activity towards developing a fit for purpose policy for the largest and very important group as far as the demographics of this country is concerned.

Mr. Emmanuel Sin-Nyet Asigri, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Youth Authority in an interview with a cross section of the media said “it is imperative that today’s event serves as an orientation platform for members of the Thematic Working Groups to be briefed on their mandate, rationale for the youth policy review exercise, what has been done so far, present a draft of the state of youth development report and highlights of the results of the issues survey undertaken in relation to this policy review process.”

According to him the review policy covered the largest population of the youth of this country which the NYA needs time to complete without rushing into it…“but we cannot also become apprehensive in it and by July 2019 we would be able to make the policy document ready,” he said.

He also revealed his impression of the various stakeholders and committee for their commitments to the youth development agenda spearheaded by the National youth Authority.

“I am optimistic of an outcome of a National Youth Policy document which will foster the youth development of our country, based on how the NYA has led relevant and key stakeholders in approaching this review process. As such you are expected to dispassionately consider the issues relating to the themes you will be working on with open minds, leading to a relevant and result focus reviewed policy, to ensure a dynamic and disciplined youth imbued with a spirit of nationalism, and a sense of public service and morality to effectively participate in the development of our country,” he stressed.

Also commenting at the Orientation program, the President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Tinkaro Asare stated that NUGS focus is not about the coalition of the policy but their concern is rather the implementation and how to create the awareness to promote the policy because without that the policy will not be of no value to the youth of this country.

The policy which was launched in 2010 under the theme “Towards an Empowered Youth, impacting positively on development” has 19 priority areas ranging from leadership through good governance to democracy, all of which remain very vital to the youth development agenda.

Meanwhile Mr. Asigi has also advised the youth against drugs and substance abuse notably, tramadol and inhaling of Glue which is harmful to do their body and urged them to concentrate on their education and productive work to become responsible citizens to contribute their quota to the nation’s building and development exercise.
