Lift Bole Curfew: Chiefs Beg Govt.

The chiefs and people of the Bole district in the Savanna Region have appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to consider lifting the curfew imposed on them to allow businesses to thrive.

The chiefs, through the Savanna Regional Minister, Salifu Adam Brimah made the appeal to Vice-President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia when he visited the region on Sunday, 2 June 2019 as part of his nationwide Ramadan tour.

The chiefs observed that there is relative peace in the area and pleaded with the government to consider reviewing the curfew hours so the people can continue their economic activities to enhance the socio-economic development of the district.

According to Mr Brimah, the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbowura Tuntumba Boresa Sulemana Jakpa I, has constituted a committee to mediate the chieftaincy crisis in the Bole traditional area where two royal gates are fighting over the Bole skin while other areas are bedevilled with the two-chief system.

He noted that the government, and, for that matter, the Savanna Regional Coordinating Council, will intervene in that regard, adding that the government will not allow chieftaincy matters to undermine the benefits the people of the region will get from the government and, therefore, appealed for support in realising the needed peace in the area.

One other issue, Mr Brimah observed, was that there is a national ban on the logging of Rosewood in the country and appealed to the chiefs to support the government in fighting illegal logging of rosewood in the region.
