ECG Concession Under Threat - Convenor of COYEES Calls For Removal of PURC Chairman

The Director of Communications for PNC and a Convenor of Congress of Youth Economic Empowerment Seekers (COYEES) has called for the immediate removal of PURC Chairman, Mr. Michael Opam and the PURC Commissioner who doubles as the Secretary for the Economic Management team and advisor for the Vice President, Dr. Joe Amoako-Tuffour from the PURC board for leading our energy sector into additional debt within 2 years.

According to Mr. Wilson Jnr, on January 7, 2017, the debt at the energy sector was $2.4bn, but has increased to $3.2bn which is a deep retrogression in the energy sector within a period of 2 years, all because the government promised not to increase tariffs, and is gradually collapsing the energy sector.

"Gradually if we don't take care we are collapsing our energy sector,"
he said.

He disclosed that, Dr. Joe Tuffour connived with Mr. Michael Opam to influence the government to reduce tariffs last year, whiles they should have protected the energy sector from any additional debt.

He explained that, the Finance Minister in collaboration with the government are forcing indigenes and shareholders to form a consortium to have one front.

"Ken Ofori-Atta and the government have decided to coerce and force these individuals, threatening them and even telling them if they don't join the consortium they will find a way of stripping them off their shares and ownership," he alleged.

He said the most dangerous aspect is if PURC continues in this way the energy sector will soon collapse.
