As part of efforts to reaffirm her commitment to help improve the standard of education in her constituency, the Member of Parliament for the Prestea/Huni-Valley constituency, Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi has presented Candidates sitting for the 2019 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) with mathematical sets to help them write the exams without stress.

The legislator has over the years made series of donation to BECE candidates to ensure that no candidate lacked basic learning inputs required for the examination.

A total of 4,464 Mathematical sets were distributed to candidates.

Presenting the items at the St. Mathew Anglican School in Huni-valley on Monday, June 3, the MP appealed to students not to wane their responsibilities but rather learn to become responsible citizens in future since education is important to the constituency’s socio-economic and political development.

She said the annual presentation of the maths sets symbolize a collective target of the Assembly and her Office to seek quality education in the area. 

Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi urged the candidates to build confidence in themselves to put off their best in the exams in other to bring positive results on the investments made in them by their parents and to also register a remarkable pass rate improvement against last year.

The MP reiterated government’s commitment to improving education in the country hence the introduction of the Free SHS policy to make secondary education affordable by bridging the gap between the rich and poor.

To absorb the increasing number of students graduating, she tasked the candidates to pass their exams in other to benefit from the free SHS.

The MP, however, cautioned the candidates to avoid any examination malpractices to prevent cancellation of their exams since their future depends on it.

The teachers and candidates expressed gratitude to the MP for her kind gesture and her continuous support towards quality education in the constituency.

2019 BECE

In all 517,332 final-year students will write this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) from Monday, June, 2019.

They comprise 263,616 males and 253,716 females.

The 2019 BECE candidates, who are from 16,871 public and private JHSs, will write the examination at 1,880 centres across the country.
