Otumfuos Chief Shot Dead

While the country is yet to overcome the shock that rocked it over the Valentine Day fire that gutted the Ridge residence of former President Jerry John Rawlings, the people of Amoaman in the Atwima Nwabiagya district of the Ashanti Region are grieving over the cold-blooded murder of their chief. Nana Amoa Gyami II was shot dead on Sunday February 14 at about 7.30pm at his Ejisu residence by three runaway gunmen. The 56-year-old father of four was gunned down by his attackers at the entrance of his residence immediately he stepped out of his car. Briefing newsmen, the Abusuapanin of the town, Nana Kwame Boateng aka Appegey, said the former Kumasi Asante Kotoko player was met by three men in masks as soon as he stepped out of his car. Alarmed by the sight of the masked men, the deceased shouted thieves, thieves on top of his voice, with a view to drawing the attention of people to the attack on him. Nana Boateng pointed out that soon after the alarm, the masked men opened fire on the deceased, killing him instantly. The grieving Abusuapanin disclosed that the killers, after accomplishing their diabolic mission, snatched his two mobile phones and bag containing an unspecified amount of money, and entered his car. According to him, though there were people in the house, the gunmen, after committing the heinous crime, did not proceed to cause any harm to occupants but quickly fled the scene. Nana Boateng said residents of the house rushed out when they heard the gunshots; and shouted for help after they found the chief lying dead with blood all over his body. He said the body has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) mortuary, adding that the murder of the chief had shaken everyone in the town. He explained that the residents were utterly shocked because the deceased was an unassuming person who did not have any problems with anybody to warrant his death in a typical style of contract killing. Nana Boateng however expressed the confidence that appropriate investigations would be conducted by the police to fish out the killers of Nana Amoa Gyami, so they would face the consequences of the dastardly act. Daily Guide was informed that the Ejisu police are on the heels of the killer armed gang.
