“Ghana Is Not Favorite To Win The AFCON”- Mohammed Polo

Mohammed Ahmed Polo, former player of the Black Stars, has said, the current Black Stars team are not favorite to win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2019 in Egypt because of the captaincy issues in camp.

Asamoah Gyan, initially quit the Black Stars after Coach Kwesi Appiah stripped him of the band and handed it over to Andre Dede Ayew, but later he rescinded his decision after the intervention of the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The former Hearts of Oak coach said, Ghana had the best squad in the 1992 AFCON in Senegal, but couldn’t win the tournament because of same captaincy issues in camp, so the current team needs to be focused and abide by the advice from the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in other to perform well in the tournament.

Speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports, “We are hoping to see a clean tournament with good football and a better team crowned as the champions, because football is now global with everybody watching the tournament, but I think there wouldn’t be a surprise in this tournament”.

“The AFCON expansion to 24 teams is very good because and it would have meaningful impact in Africa football and it would give a lot of opportunities to more players to develop and showcase their talent to the world.

“Am praying that we would see a world champion from Africa, because it’s long overdue,” he added.
