The Second National Teacher Education Learning Summit has been held in Accra aimed at giving participants the opportunity to reflect on and also discuss recent evidence on teacher education in order to be informed about improvements being made and explore solutions to any emerging challenges.

It was organised by the National Council for Tertiary Education ( NCTE ) with support from UK Aid through the Transforming Teacher Education and Learning (T-TEL ) in Ghana Program.

In a speech read on his behalf by Mr Benjamin Gyasi Chief Director of the Ministry of Education, the Minister of Education Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh said the importance of Teaching and Learning in national development is indispensable.

This according to the Minister, is evident in the fact that education creates opportunity for all children of various backgrounds to become great persons in future.

The Minister said a key function of modern education curricular is to inspire the minds of student - teachers and equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure the continuous development of the country through quality teaching and learning . Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh stated that the county's ambitious goal of implementing the Bachelor of Education curricular in the Colleges of Education requires consistent and continuous efforts on the part of all stakeholders to ensure great success.

He hoped the summit will help generate ideas and recommendation to promote excellence in Teaching and Learning in the Colleges of Education.

Dr Sakina Acquah Senior Lecturer at University of Education Winneba emphasized the need to take all necessary steps to sensitise Student - Teachers in the Colleges of Education to give out their best on the field.

According to Dr Sakina Acquah, the performance of teachers on the field is largely underlined by the training they had from their lecturers.

In his welcome address, the Board Chairman of the NCTE Prof Boafo Arthur noted that education transformation in the country is taking place in a rapid pace.

"It is therefore the duty of stakeholders in the education sector to help make the transformation a success in order to improve and make the country's manpower development unparalleled at least in Africa," Prof Boafo Arthur stated.
