GNPC Foundation Supports Edina Traditional Council

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation has presented a cheque of GHS 20,000 to the Edina Traditional Council as their support to the celebration of this year’s Bakatue Festival on Saturday, July 6, 2019.

A team from GNPC Foundation led by the Executive Director, Dr Dominic Kwesi Eduah attended a grand durbar of the Edina Bakatue Festival in the Central region. This was to show support and celebrate with the Chiefs and people of Edina Traditional area.

The Edina Bakatue Festival which is an annual event celebrated to thank the Almighty God for His guidance and protection, abundant harvest, discussion of prominent projects for the future and a smooth sailing into the following year.

This year’s event was the 150th anniversary of the festival and it attracted several eminent personalities including the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H. E Alhaji Dr Mahmoud Bawumia, Member of Parliament for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem, Hon Samuel Atta Mills, Deputy Central Regional Minister, Hon Thomas Adjei, CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Akwasi Agyemang, among others.

At the event, Dr Dominic Eduah presented a speech that highlighted on the infrastructural projects being undertaking by GNPC in the Central region and the nation.

He encouraged the parents and guardians gathered to accessthe GNPC Scholarship scheme for their wards who have been offered admissions by any of the public tertiary institutions to study Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects as well as Special Needs Education.

Dr Eduah also lauded the Chiefs initiative of helping the fishmongers in the area to shift from using the traditional ways of preserving fish such as smoking and salting to use the modern ovens which emit less smoke. “Such traditional methods do not only encumber efficiency but detrimental to the health of women who engage in this economic activity because of their exposure to excessive heat and smoke,” he said.
He donated Twenty Thousand Cedis (GHS 20,000) on behalf of GNPC Foundation to support this special initiative.
