Appointment of Kwame Owusu Means NPP Don't Have Credible Men To Work With – Vanderpuye

Member of Parliament [MP] for the Odododiodio constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has said he can’t understand the grounds on which this government would appoint former Managing Director of the Ghana Maritime Authority [GMA], Kwame Owusu as Board Chairman of the Ghana Revenue Authority [GRA].

To him, Kwame Owusu has never contributed positively as far as the state is concerned to merit such position but, “believes he was granted that position to make more money on behalf of the NPP pending the up-coming elections as a financier of the party”.

Nii Lante Vanderpuye who spoke on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ newspaper panel discussion segment indicated that words used by the former Managing Director of GMA to defend his actions of fixing thirteen [13] air conditioners in a four bedroom house, spending one million Ghana cedis worth of money on buffet e.t.c. can never permit him any position as far as the state is concerned.

“ . . but on which grounds should NPP and government under President Akufo-Addo appoint Kwame Owusu . . . when government depends on the directions given by Board of Directors to act on matters concerning institutions they[Board of directors] represent,” he said.

He said this action by the current government shows they don’t have credible and concrete men to work for the betterment of the country.

“The New Patriotic Party is now made up of small boys who know nothing about proper governance,” he added.

Mr Owusu, a former Managing Director of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) was recently named as the Board Chairman of the GRA and there has been some public disagreement with the appointment.

This is because, some think that there has not been a conclusion to a pending case of investigations into allegations of abuse of office and conflict of interest whilst he was Managing Director of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA).
