1V1D Saga: This Is Pure Mischief....Minister’s Comment Taken Out Of Context - PRO

The Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Special Development Initiative, Mr. Kabore Awudu Moro has described as mischief and misrepresentation an extract from a lengthy interview granted Ghanaweb in which the Minister of Special Development Initiative, Hon. Hawa Koomson is purported to have made some unpleasant comments about the government’s one village, one dam initiative.

In a press statement copied to Peacefmonline.com, Mr. Kabore Moro intimated that the 3 minutes interview the sector minister granted to Ghanaweb which has gone viral has been misunderstood, taken out of context and misrepresented as she never meant to say that meaningful dams cannot be constructed by her Ministry.

I would want to put on record after listening to the entire interview that, the Hon. Hawa Koomson pronouncements that have gone viral was misunderstood, taken out of context and misrepresented.

She never meant to say that MEANINGFUL dams cannot be constructed by her Ministry per say due to the budgetary allocation but rather, she had wanted to refer to the SIZES of the dams in relation to the propaganda by political opponents who seem to suggest that, an Akosombo- like sort of dams should have been constructed instead of the Small Earth Dams that are being constructed”, the release stated.

Our attention has been drawn to an extract from a lengthy interview granted Ghanaweb in which the Minister of Special Development Initiative, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson is purported to have made some comments regarding the construction of Government’s initiative, One Village, One Dam.

I would want to put on record after listening to the entire interview that, the Hon. Hawa Koomson pronouncements that have gone viral was misunderstood, taken out of context and misrepresented.

She never meant to say that a MEANINGFUL dams cannot be constructed by her Ministry per say due to the budgetary allocation but rather, she had wanted to refer to the SIZES of the dams in relation to the propaganda by political opponents who seem to suggest that, an Akosombo- like sort of dams should have been constructed instead of the Small Earth Dams that are being constructed.

She again, quote the ghc250,000 to emphasis the types of dams being constructed and not to blame the sizes of the dams being constructed on the amount allocated for the project. In fact, the amount allocated for the dams was based on a proper assessment of the needs.

It is my belief that she was taken completely out of context. The interview she granted was about 3 minutes long but for a reason not known, some people decided to cut just 30 seconds section ostensibly to take her out of context and to play mischief.

I put it on record that the Ministry is constructing appropriate and meaningful dams in the northern regions that can serve the purpose of the beneficiary communities in the 5 north regions.

The dams being constructed are fit for purpose and prudent use of the state resources.

For emphasis, the types of the dam being constructed are well-engineered and appropriate for the beneficiary communities. In other words, there are different types of dams which come in varying sizes; the Small Earth dams, the concrete dams, the bigger Irrigation dams.

MSDI is constructing the smaller types of dams called the Small Earth dams.
