A number of enterpreneurs in the construction sector in the country have appealed to government for tax reduction to help boost their businesses to enable them employ more people and also help train the youth to acquire technical skills in the construction sector to make them self employed.

They made the request at a forum organized by the Youth Inclusive Entrepreneurial Development Initiative for Employment (YIEDIE) for Members of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) - Construction Sector and other constructiom sector businesses as well as tax authorities to discuss how businesses in the construction sector could be supported by government so that they can be more viable and help create jobs for the youth.

Speaking to Peace FM at the program, the YIEDIE Project Director, Vera Kafui Mills Odoi said the forum provided opportunity to the participants to share ideas and to make their concerns known to tax authorities and government.

She said since 2015, YIEDIE has trained 23,198 youth to acquire skills in the construction sector thereby helping to reduce youth unemployment in the country.

The President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Nii Ayi Aryeetey said there are provisions in the Tax law that provide income tax reduction for businesses which support free training of the youth to acquire employable skills.

Nii Ayi Aryeetey also stated that there are also provisions in the tax law that provide tax waivers for start-up businesses and advised entrepreneurs to structure their businesses well to enable them benefit from such income tax reduction.
