As the National Democratic Congress (NDC) prepares to decide the next candidate to represent the party in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency for the 2020 general elections, voters need to reflect over important issues before making their final decision.

There is no doubt that the current NPP member of Parliament, Madam Lydia Alhassan has proven to be stale, and oblivious to the most current political, social, economic and cultural philosophies that the most progressive members of parliament are churning out and executing.

It’s been said that the level of enlightenment of a society must not be judged by the conditions of life of its strongest members, but rather by the conditions of the weakest.

In Ghana, it’s the other way round. The NDC at Ayawaso West Wuogon can help us, put an end to this stagnation and kleptocracy by taking a momentous step – retiring and rejecting inefficient and tainted politicians.

The NDC must modernize. This means that a whole generation of tainted NDC politicians must give way to a newer, more objective, and better informed generation.

The time for meritocracy has come and is here to stay. The old and tired political nepotism practiced by Ghana’s elite, both traditional and business, must give way to a more objective, merit-based system.

John Dumelo represents the face of patronage, entitlement and the NDC risked going into political oblivion in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency if he mistakenly gets the nod to represent the party.

John Dumelo has never been an NDC activist neither is he regarded as a registered voter in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, according to alleged reports. It is a known fact and every party person in the constituency knows this for a fact. He can best be described as a friend to former president John Mahama and he's coming into this contest through patronage and entitlement.

John Dumelo must not be allowed to destroy the chances of the party in the 2020 general elections. This is a guy who joined the 2016 NDC campaign as a celebrity campaigner with so much cash at disposal. He had access to millions of dollars made available to him by then president to canvass for votes. We later got to know that, this pseudo politician allegedly managed to divert the campaign cash into his personal bank account and even made away with a Landcruiser V8 vehicle given to him for the campaign.

It took the intervention of National security operatives under the new regime to retrieve the vehicle from John Dumelo.

There has been several other allegations of him promising women abroad of marriage and succeeding in taken thousands of dollars from them.

The NDC must be careful not to hand over the Ayawaso West Wuogon candidature John Dumelo. The NPP will definitely have a field day and not even campaign as a result of the tainted image of John Dumelo.

We must vote for candidates who are clean- people who are not corrupted- people who will not use their association with the ruling elites to feather their own selfish agenda.

The NDC is a party of the masses and not people who feel they are entitle to lead even though their hearts and minds are tainted with impunity, corruption and thievery.
