"Listening" Akufo-Addo Gov't Will "Fix" Bad Roads..."Not With Words & Pictures" - Ofori-Atta Assures

The ruling Akufo-Addo government has promised to fix most of the bad roads in the country.

Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, who made this known during the presentation of the 2019 Mid-Year Review said, "already monies have been allocated to take care of that".

According to him, even though "this cannot be achieved with four years," the construction of the roads will definitely commence adding, "we shall fix them not with words and pictures" but with action; thus re-echoing President Nana Akufo Addo's earlier remarks last week and a clear shade at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Green Book Revisited

President Akufo- Addo, speaking at a durbar of chiefs and elders of Assin Jakai in the Assin South constituency over the weekend, took a dig at the NDC saying he believes the opposition party's road infrastructure its members boasted about while in power can only be found in their Green Book.

The road infrastructure the NDC boasted off can only be found in the green book,” President Akufo-Addo said.

The Mahama government captured its projects in a book titled: Green Book.

NPP Exposed Over "Photoshopped" Green Book

In November 2018, former President John Dramani Mahama, while addressing NDC delegates in the Shai Osu-Doku constituency at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region, reportedly stated that time has exposed the claims by the then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that, the NDC's Green Book of achievements was photoshopped.

According to Mr. Mahama, the existence of some of his government’s major achievements notwithstanding, the NPP through a sustained campaign of lies, convinced Ghanaians that those projects did not exist.

Minister's Subtle Dig

But presenting the mid-year budget review, which was in accordance with Section 28 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), the Finance Minister took a subtle dig at the NDC with his reference to "the legendary Green Book".

"We have looked beyond the legendary Green Book of bold but many unsubstantiated claims of infrastructural projects fabricated and built but in those beautiful pages for our predecessors’ 2016 campaign. We have also heard the echoing calls of the people from across the country since the Green Book was commissioned and their cries are to have their roads fixed. My message to all those WhatsApp videos of bad roads is this: we have heard you; we have seen them and; we are sending over the motor graders, wheel loaders, asphalt mixing plants and road roller machines to fix your community roads, farm gate roads and highways. We will certainly not be able to do them all within this four-year term. But, we have planned for them and have found the money to do far more than what the Green Book authors achieved.

Fellow Ghanaians, I wish to plead with you and assure you to bear with us for your obeying government, the Akufo-Addo government will fix your roads and we shall fix them not with words and pictures. We are serving the people better...The Akufo-Addo government is an obeying government; it means we listen and we act responsively…" he indicated.
