No 'Self-Serving' Politician Should Attempt To Appropriate Any Asset of ECG - JJ Cautions

After calling for the termination of the agreement with Power Distribution Services (PDS), the former Deputy Energy Minister, John Jinapor has cautioned that the problem with PDS should not be a spectrum for 'self-serving' politicians to appropriate the assets and shares of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

According to him, no attempt should be made by politicians to make new arrangement and agreement out of the problem with PDS, but return all the assets to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to manage them fully.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, John Jinapor called on Ghanaians to support the management of ECG to work effectively, especially the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) by paying their bills.

He said Ghanaians must support ECG's management to work effectively.

"It shouldn’t be that it is a state-owned company and so the MDAs will not pay their bills; at least we have seen what the PDS has been doing . . . it will disconnect your power, even ministries have not been spared in the disconnection exercises. So if PDS can do that, ECG can equally do that,” he urged.

He, therefore, admonished the Akufo-Addo government to, “terminate the concession, do what is proper and continue with the criminal investigations. The state agencies should do their work regarding the issue of fraud”.

Due to his in-depth knowledge of the concession as former Deputy Minister of Energy, John Jinapor has dared to let the cat out of the bag, should the government fail to do what is right for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

“I have followed this concession thoroughly and if I decide to speak about the information and documents I have on this concession, something bad will happen in this country. If it gets to a point where things don’t fall into their proper places, I will shake up things in the country,” he dared.
