Dean of National Coordinators of the Nations Builders Corps (NABCO), Khan Wunison Jam has entreated Ghanaians not to pay money for the tagging of their properties under the National Digital Property Addressing System project scheduled to commence today, 8th August 2019.

The nationwide exercise to be carried out by NABCO recruit will tag all properties using the Ghana Post GPS to enhance revenue mobilization and contribute to the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda. Dean of National Coordinators of the Nations Builders Corps (NABCO), Khan Wunison Jam.

A total of 12,750 NABCO beneficiaries of the Digitize Ghana module have been trained and ready for deployment across the nation to tag all properties. The project is being funded by the government through the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives.

Speaking to Citi News during the training of technical officers in Bolgatanga, Dean of National NABCO Coordinators, Khan Wunison Jam said, the essence of the project is to have a digital database of all properties to assist the government in revenue generation as well as planning for improved service delivery.

“One of the things we have not been able to do is to use the local system to generate a lot more revenue for local development, we have not been able to do that, because we do not have a digitized system. We are trying to build a database such that, payment of property rates become much easier because every Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly will have the details and digital address of every single property.”

“We are going to have pictures of these properties and so, you log onto the system and you are able to tell who has paid his or her property rate and who hasn’t so they can follow up on persons who evade property rates”.

Mr. Khan Wunison cautioned the public not to pay any money to get their properties tagged because the exercise is free.

He further warned that, appropriate sanctions will be meted out to persons and NABCO agents who engage in any corrupt practices with the hope of unduly influencing the exercise.

“The National Digital Property Addressing System exercise is free of charge and no Ghanaian should pay any money for tagging of his or her property.”

“Do not try to bribe or influence any NABCO agent to skip on house or property to register yours, there is a system that we are using for this exercise and we shall get to every house or property to register it”.
Some property owners who spoke to Citi News expressed mix feelings about their expectations of the exercise.

While some opined that, it was a laudable initiative to generate revenue for development, others kicked against it, saying it was an attempt to generate and misappropriate taxpayers monies.

The Nation Builders Corps serves as a stop-gap measure by the government in addressing the unemployment situation in the country.

The first batch of beneficiaries comprises 100,000 persons selected from across the entire country who are expected to undertake various projects under the programme which will last for three years.
