Dybala Deal Off! Tottenham Fail In Move To Lure Juventus Star To Premier League

Tottenham's attempts to sign Juventus forward Paulo Dybala have collapsed because they were fearful of not being able to find a replacement.

Spurs were looking to complete a stunning late deal for the Argentine international on deadline day but negotiations have been called off.

Juventus are the ones who have abandoned the deal after deciding to keep hold of one of their prized assets because they believe there is a lack of alternatives of suitable quality and value.

They were interested in Romelu Lukaku but he is now on the brink of joining Inter Milan and Juve were afraid they would have been left short if Dybala was to depart.

Spurs had reached a deal with Juventus for a transfer in the region of £69million (€75m) but it was proving hard to agree personal terms.

Dybala wanted £300,000 per week, which would have eclipsed current top earner Harry Kane’s £200,000-a-week deal.

Dybala himself had asked for time to consider his future before committing to a move to north London and it seems he sees his future still in Italy.

Dybala scored during a pre-season run-out on Wednesday evening against Novara, who play in Italy's third tier, Serie C.

Gonzalo Higuain, Mario Mandzukic and Matthijs de Ligt were also on target for the Old Lady, as new coach Maurizio Sarri watched on during a comfortable 4-0 win.

Mauricio Pochettino will now be forced to look elsewhere for reinforcements with time running out in the transfer window.

Spurs are close to agreeing a deal to sign Real Betis attacking midfielder Giovani Lo Celso and Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon.

They were closing in on the signing of Lo Celso on Wednesday night and were on standby to move for Sporting Lisbon's Bruno Fernandes if they were to encounter any late problems.

Betis's Lo Celso has been Pochettino's top choice though the £88m price tag for the attacking midfielder - his buyout clause valuation - was proving a major stumbling block earlier in the window.

But the clubs were close to agreeing a fee with Betis of around £60m for the 23-year-old on Wednesday night.
