72-Year-old Farmer Jailed 20 Years For Defiling 14-Year-old Girl

A 72-year-old Farmer, Emmanuel Tetteh at Brepaw Kpeti near Asesewa has been found guilty and convicted to serve a jail term of 20 years for defiling a 14-year-old girl schooling at Brepaw Kpeti Presbyterian Primary.

The Prosecutor narrated that the complainant, the victim, and the convicted person all reside in the same house at Brepaw Kpeti near Asesewa and in the month of March 2019, the complainant performed “Dipo” rite at Odumase for the victim and after the rite, the 72-year-old farmer started making sexual advances towards the 14-year-old girl.

According to Chief Inspector Owusu Ababio, a complainant Madam Rebecca Kwao, a 32-year-old trader who is the biological mother of the victim Sandra Teye reported that on August 18, 2019, at about 12:30 pm, the convicted Emmanuel Tetteh forcibly had sexual intercourse with the victim in his room.

Chief Inspector Owusu Ababio told the Circuit Court A presided over by Her Honour Mariam Affoh that the convicted lured the victim into his room and defiled her; thus, subsequently, the convicted had several sexual intercourses with the victim on any least chance when the complainant is at home.

 “After the act, the victim who was in serious pain informed the complainant about the ordeal she went through in the hands of the convicted, Emmanuel Tetteh,” the Eastern Regional Police Command told the Circuit Court A.

The Prosecutor again told Her Honour Affoh that an extract of occurrence was prepared and sent to DOVVSU for further assistance immediately the complainant reported the case to Asesewa Police station.

The Asesewa Police, however, issued a police medical report form to the complainant in respect of the victim together with a police officer to go to the Atua Government Hospital for examination, treatment, and report.

The accused 72-year-old farmer was arrested and in the course of investigation and in the presence of an independent witness, the now-convicted Emmanuel Tetteh admitted the offence; thus, he was charged with the offence and arraigned before the honourable Circuit Court A.

Her Honour Mariam Affoh in her judgment convicted Mr. Emmanuel Tetteh for defilement and sentenced him for 20 years and also charged him to compensate the victim for an amount of Ghc10,000.
