ECG To Increase Vending Stations For Prepaid Customers

The Deputy Minister of Energy, Hon. Emmanuel Buah, has said the electricity company of Ghana (ECG) intends to increase prepaid vending stations in the country in order to reduce the long queues of customers at the vending stations. According to the Minister, currently, the ECG has about 500 thousand prepaid customers who are supposed to be served at 250 vending stations but only 150 vending stations have been provided by the ECG to serve the customers. Hon. Buah made this known in parliament when the MP for Ablekuma Central, Hon. Theophilus Tei Chaie asked him to state measures being taken by the ministry of energy to ensure that all rented rooms and compound houses are given separate meters. Hon. Buah said the ECG has recently revised its eligibility criteria downwards for the granting of separate meters to its customers to enable many people to qualify for the metres.
