NDC Secretary Slaps Adom Fm Reporter At Nkwanta South Primaries

A reporter with Adom Fm and TV of Multi Media Group has been assaulted in the line of duty as he covered the just ended primaries of the opposition NDC in the Nkwanta South Constituency of the Oti region.

According to Benjamin Owusu Kwame Obrempongba, he received a hefty slap from the Nkwanta South Constituency Secretary, Prince Succeed Fiagadzi, last Saturday at about 5:45pm during a commotion that ensued between the supporters of the incumbent MP, Geoffery Kini and that of his contender, Richard Manuribe.

Obrempongba said after Geoffery was pronounced winner with 885 votes as against Richard’s 192 votes, the supporters had some misunderstanding at the gate of the Kyabobo Game Center where the primaries were held. As duty demands, he rushed there to get some details and pictures.

When he got close to the scene one of the people in the crowed, tried to attack him for taking pictures, but the Police intervened. As then moved slightly away from the scene. Just then Prince Succeed also warned him as he walked pass to stop taking visual coverage of the commotion.

Having been assaulted about twice in the past in line of duty in the area, he moved further about 15 meters from the scene to take a few more shots of the misunderstanding. “Apparently, Prince was monitoring my movement. Before I could say jack, a hefty slap had landed on my right cheek including my ear area, bam,” Obrempong narrated.

He said he got a little disoriented for a moment and then Prince further snatched his phone and smashed it. “All I heard in the who process was, I told you to stop the coverage and you are still doing it.”

The sound of the slap and outbursts of the NDC scribe attracted the Police and other supporters to come to the rescue of the reporter.

Obrempongba who has since reported the case to the Nkwanta Police and received some treatment from the St Joseph’s Hospital is yet to recover from the slap. He told DGN Online in an interview that “Since Saturday, I have been having severe headache pain in my right ear and neck. I have not been able to get out of the room,” he lamented.

He quickly reported the case at the Nkwanta Police station where he was issued a medical report. A medical report signed by P.A Richard Adjei of the St. Joseph’s Hospital and issued last Monday, August, 26, 2019 confirmed that the assault has caused the reporter a lot of pain in the head, ear and neck.

He was able to make an official statement at the Police Station on Monday August 26, 2019. The Investigator on the case who gave his name as Godsway confirmed the incident saying “It is true; a report has been made. I have invited the suspect and I am taking his statement. I will get back to you when I finish.”
