A middle-aged man, Yussif Nii Okai, popularly known by his peers as Taller who resides in Ashaiman, a suburb of Tema, has allegedly beaten one Adjei Akatoi, who happens to be his friend to death. According to Tetteh Nayoka, an eyewitness, on 11th February, 2010 at about 2 a.m, he was asleep in front of his room when he saw the suspect, Yussif Okai coming towards him in an angry mood with a stick and knife in his hands. He said on reaching where he was, he asked of the whereabouts of Adjei Akatoi but Yussif Okai was unable to tell him where exactly his friend was. The eyewitness said Yussif vowed in his presence to butcher Adjei Akatoi to death if he ever sees him. He continued that before I could ask what the problem was, Adjei had entered the house in search of the deceased. And when Yussif saw Adjei coming, he drew closer to him and gave him a hefty slap; Adjei in return also replied, setting the stage for a fierce fight between the two, but people in the neighbourhood came to separate the them. At about 4:30 a.m., the same day the eyewitness recounted I was going to the fishing harbour and when I got to Camprisco School Complex, I came across Adjei lying in a pool of blood. And when I sought from him who had done that to him, he told me it was Yussif Okai, who had hit him with a stick in the head and stabbed him also. So I rushed him (referring to Adjei Akatoi) to Narbita Hospital at Tema community for medical for treatment, but he unfortunately died some few minutes after he was admitted. Consequently, Tetteh Nayoka left the hospital to report the matter to the Tema New Town Police Station after which he was accompanied by some police officers on duty to the hospital. He said the police upon examining the deceased found a deep cut at the back of the head with blood still oozing out. His intestines were also out as a result of the knife wounds he sustained. The body of the deceased was then taken from the hospital and deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for autopsy. Meanwhile, the suspect, Yussif Nii Okai, has been arrested at his hide-out at Zenu in the Ashaiman municipality. His arrest was on the13th February, 2010.
