Court Convicts Raymond Archer Of Contempt

The Managing Editor of the Enquirer Newspaper, Raymond Archer, has been convicted of contempt of court by an Accra fast track high court over publications in his paper that alleged that former foreign affairs Minister Akwesi Osei Adjei and the former NIB Managing Director Daniel Gyimah attempted bribing witnesses in a case involving the two. The court ordered that Mr Archer should retract the stories and apologize to the court, the accused persons and the public through the same medium by Friday February 26. Sentencing has however been deferred to Friday. Mr Archer has been admitted to bail of 50,000 Ghana cedis with a surety. He is currently in court awaiting the arrival of his surety as the administrative processes are gone through to grant him bail. Mr Akwesi Osei Adjei and Mr Daniel Gyimah are battling the state in court over accusations that they caused financial loss of 10 million dollars to the state in the importation of several bags of rice from India to Ghana in the thick of the global food crises. The National Investment Bank was in charge of the rice importation. Mr Gyimah was then the managing Director as of the time the importation was effected.
