Otumfuo Lands In US For UN Meeting

There was mad rush by scores of people who wanted to catch a glimpse of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is currently in the United States of America (USA).

News of the Asante Monarch’s visit to the US had spread like wild fire, and so even before the king arrived in Washington DC on Saturday, there were a number of people waiting to welcome him.

At the airport to welcome the 16th Asante king were Ghana’s Ambassador to the US, Prof. Baffuor Adjei-Bawuah, and other dignitaries working in Ghana’s embassy in the United States of America.

Also at the airport to meet Otumfuo were some traditional leaders in Ghana and the US, including Nana Kusi Boadum, Chief of Domeabra, and Nana Asuah Amoako II, Fumesuahene.

Some Americans were also at the airport to give the king a rousing welcome.

Reports monitored by the DAILY GUIDE indicated that most of the people at the airport were extremely excited to see Otumfuo.

Otumfuo’s Mission

The Asantehene is in the US at the invitation of the United Nations (UN). He is billed to address the UN General Assembly’s High Level Forum on September 13, 2019, on the topic of culture and peace.

It is a known fact that Otumfuo during his two decades reign has successfully combined culture, tradition and modernity to promote peace and unity in the Ashanti Kingdom and Ghana in general.

Otumfuo’s historic address would, therefore, highlight mainly on his unique policies and strategies that have contributed to make his kingdom one-of-a-kind, especially in the era of advancement and modernisation.

The forum would mark the 25th anniversary of the ‘Adoption of the Declaration and Programme of Action in New York and the African Union’ in Washington DC. The world media would capture the event.

Otumfuo has, in the past, been invited to international programmes to deliver similar addresses. He has also been given honorary doctorate awards by top universities across the globe for his splendid leadership.
