"Xenophobic" South Africans Mock Our Piety As African People – Sammy Awuku

The National Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku has described the ongoing xenophobic attacks on African nationals as "mockery" of the African continent.

Speaking to host Nana Yaw Kesse on Peace FM’s "Kokrokoo", Mr. Awuku expressed disappointment in the South Africans, particularly the President and government, saying "as an African, we all have something we call African culture. When you travel to other European countries, your first identity of passport is the colour of your skin...they refer to us as the young black person meaning your skin colour is your first passport for identification".

He asked the South Africans not to forget the support and empathy they got from African countries during their dark days.

To him, the xenophobic incident in the country mocks the piety of Africans.

"They should remember that in their difficult moment, the rest of Africans stood by them in the form of several support and i'm surprised that they still think the reason for their unemployment is due to black foreigners while 70% of their wealth are in the  hands of the whites...In fact, the whites predominate their biggest industries and institutions and you are okay with that but your own black brothers that stood by you in your difficult moment; you choose to maltreat them. I am hihgly disappointed in them," he stressed.
