Tema Police Shit-Bombed

The Tema Circuit Court has remanded Kingsley Mantey, a robbery suspect, into police custody for allegedly spraying three police custody for allegedly spraying three police officers with human faeces. According to the prosecutor, the incident occurred as the officers were moving the accused person and some others to the Nsawam Prison. Narrating the fact before the court which was presided over by Lorinda Owusu, the prosecutor, chief Inspector Matilda Tetteh, told the court that on January 2010 the Assistant Superintendent of Police (A.S.P.), Daniel Dzamtse, was directing two other colleagues as they moved some remand prisoners from police cells into a waiting vehicle headed for the Nsawam Prison. The prosecutor noted that the accused person, who was a remand prisoner charged with robbery, was said to have stated categorically that he would not to the Nsawam Prison with his fellow prisoners. The prosecutor recounted that ASP Daniel Dzamtse then tried to persuade the accused person to board the police vehicle, but he (the accused) immediately fetched a handful of human faeces from the toilet bowl in the cells, smearing it the ASP, Inspector Mensah and Detective Lance Corporal Amoateng, all of the Community 2 police station. The accused person was reported to have also threatened ASP Dzamtse by saying he would make sure the police officer was removed from Tema, compelling the three policemen to lodge a complaint against him. Kinsgley Mantey, who according to the prosecutor refused to make any statement without his lawyer present, was later arraigned and put before the court.
